The Malta Poker Championships series will be held at Pokio in May
BY Press Releases ON May 07, 2020
Due to the current Covid 19 crisis, the well-known Malta Poker Championships held annually at Casino Portomaso are being moved from the live tables to the popular poker app Pokio. Malta-based Qufan Internet Technology Ltd and the world’s largest poker database The Hendon Mob have agreed with festival organizer Ivonne Montealegre and decided to host the entire event online.
The series is played between May 22 and May 27 – with tournaments such as the Main Event € 30,000 GTD , Hendon Mob’s € 10,000 GTD and a “Queens of Pokio” for ladies on the schedule.
Pokio’s mobile app for poker has exploded in popularity in recent months and now also gets its first fire test with MPC. A big factor in the success is that the developers succeeded in transmitting the feeling of playing live poker at a casino or club directly to the mobile. “We have redefined the way to play online poker, ” says Qufan’s CEO Manuel Lopes. “When our long-time partner and friend, Ivonne Montealegre had to cancel the Malta Poker Festival, we became very eager to help in any way,” he continues.
“Our partners have been very cooperative. Live poker as we know it has changed drastically, but I’m glad to be able to try the Pokio platform, “says Ivonne in an interview with Pokernews.
All tournaments throughout the series will be free of charge , as a nice gesture to the players who normally play live. There will also be a tournament called “Dealer Relief Special”, where all the journeys go to the dealers who are currently without a job .
Freerolls and Satellites for the event are held throughout May.
