Chris Read flew in from Atlanta for the Malta Poker Festival. She was also here last Spring when she won the €100 MPF Ladies First! event.

This time around, the WPA advocate is hosting the Ladies First! event on Saturday, April 29 at 4 p.m. The buy-in has increased to €150, meaning there will be a bigger prize pool for those making it deep in this event.

We had a chance to interview Read a couple of months ago about her hosting the Ladies First! event and more. Read more about it here.

Unfortunately, Read hasn’t had the best start to Day 1b of the Grand Event and is down to 17,000. She just got called super light in the following hand against Erik Lindqwist.

Both Read and Lindqwist checked with the 832J on the board after the turn. A fourth diamond in the 2 completed the board on the river. Read bet for 7,600. Lindqwist tanked for about a minute before he called.

Read turned over the 43 with no diamonds. She was picked off by Lindqwist who only had the 44 to win the hand.

“Sheesh,” Read said. “Nice hand.”

“Pretty bad calling with just the four of diamonds,” Lindqwist said about his play.

“I’m used to it,” said Read. “I’m being called light all the time.”
